I finished the second draft! 50K words.
And oh, I love this story so much. It is my own story, my memoir, yes. But I am in love with it just the same.
It is a speculative memoir.
There is such a thing. I looked it up and … surprise! It is a sub-genre of memoir that integrates the spectacular into non-fiction storytelling. It could include ghosts, imagined pasts, or even parallel universes. In my case, it includes the Holy Spirit, personified. His name is Spirit and he converses periodically with my spirit, Mishalariah.
So odd. Yet it makes so much sense when you think about how much our carnal selves are in opposition to our spiritual selves. We constantly argue with each other. As Paul alluded, "I don't do what I should. And I do what I shouldn't." So who are we arguing with? Our conscience? Our spirit? God?
It's fun to think about. It's even more fun to write about. In this second draft, I added more of a sense of place (setting) where Mishalariah and Spirit have their conversations. They are in an enclosed chamber that has a single entryway, sparkling walls, a solitary couch, and a blue velvet chair where Spirit sits to counsel.
I'm still not sure if I will publish this one. If I do, it will probably be a self-publish endeavor.
I'll let you know.
